2011’s Most Underrated Music: Nicki Minaj - “Did It On Em”
In 2011, Nicki Minaj merely became the black Lady Gaga. Though it may seem racist to make such a claim, it’s absolutely true. Mirroring Gaga’s histrionics, devil may care attitude, homosexual adoration and overabundance of kitsch, the rapper became a multimedia dynamo. In her evolution from being the most vicious bar for bar female emcee rap had seen in nearly a decade to being a Merrie Melodies cartoon, Nicki never lost her edge. In fact, its the fact that a woman in a pink beehive rocking six inch heels with eyebrows arched to perpetual surprise could create “Did It On Em” that makes it so amazing.
Bangladesh takes crunk to dubstep and gives the maniacally entertaining chanteuse/auteur a brilliant platform that she slays, the walking ad lib of hip hop’s next level mainstream year going all the way in and letting it hang all the way out, succeeding all the way.
