NOBODY makes house music like @SPF5K. Pay attention. Become a fan.

I’m not asking you to share my pain, however I am going to tell you only once that I’m absolutely correct. Thin voiced women singing house music typically sucks. It’s elevator music for cloyingly polite people. You know what I mean, the kind of music you listen to when you don’t want to dance but are forced to by occasion. It’s dance music for people who like dance badly because they have to, fear of losing their badge of infinite and ultimately useless cool trapping their feet in the two-left two-step of agony.

Massachusetts duo Amy Douglas and Rob Phillips comprise SPF 5000 and absolutely aren’t cool, and don’t make music for cool people. They’re timeless, and expect their listeners to demand that out of their lives as well. Amy sings songs with soul and verve, propulsive notes requiring exhaustive dance steps at fear of your body being driven into the walls of a venue. Rob’s productions? Straight out of the school of George Clinton meeting Larry Levan, Detroit soul meeting New York extravagance with a foot broken off squarely in the subwoofer.

“Paraiso?” Philly champagne soul maestros MFSB’s Saturday Night Fever soundtrack champion “K-Jee” reworked is, outside of being remixed by Lazaro Casanova, Hex Hector, Walker and Royce and Scottie B is a classic disco winner. From the dance floors of the Paradise Garage of yesterday to the Cielo of now, and all spots in between it’s the height of pleasing dance floor excellence. Enjoy.
