Building My Ultimate Rock Band - LEAD GUITARIST: SLASH
Visually stunning in his top hat and flowing curly locks, Guns N Roses lead guitarist Slash provides the sizzle and steak for my iconic quartet in the same package. In my opinion, he’s gifted enough to have easily the most impressive riff (the above “Sweet Child O Mine”) and solo (1991’s “November Rain”) in the history of mainstream rock. “Sweet Child O Mine” is amazing because in it’s melodic wail, it’s high enough in the sonic register to allow enough room for Guns N Roses to have enough space to fill the rest of the track comfortably. When Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler come barreling in after Slash’s epic kick start, the track has both the size and space established to successfully achieve its epic intentions. In possibly being one of the most talented unlikely matinee idols in rock history, Slash MUST be in my group.
